Giving Back to the North — One Project at a Time

Every spring, we hear from passionate volunteers, community leaders, and organizations across Northern Ontario who are working hard to make their towns a little stronger, a little brighter, and a little better for everyone. If that sounds like you — this grant is for you.

Whether you’re building a new playground in Earlton, upgrading medical equipment in Englehart, running a youth recreation program in Kirkland Lake, or organizing an arts initiative in Latchford, the Frog’s Breath Foundation was created to help turn great local ideas into reality.

We’ve been doing it for over 25 years, and we’re proud to have supported more than 150 local projects, giving back over $8.3 million across 24 Northern Ontario communities.

Apply Anytime — We Review Every Spring

You can apply any time of year, and we encourage you to start early. The online system allows you to save your progress and come back to it later, so there’s no rush to finish in one sitting.

Our official review happens once a year on March 31, but you can begin your application today and keep refining it as your project evolves.

Successful applicants are notified by the end of April, and funds are typically available within a month.

Deadline for 2026 Applications: March 31, 2026 Apply online: frogsbreathfoundation.org/online-application

Who We Support — Local Projects for Local People

Frog’s Breath funds projects that directly support communities within the District of Temiskaming, including:

Belle Vallée, Charlton, Cobalt, Coleman Township, Dymond, Earlton, Elk Lake, Englehart, Gowganda, Haileybury, Hilliardton, Hudson Lakes, Kenabeek, Kerns, Kirkland Lake, Latchford, Lorrain Valley, Matachewan, Mowat Landing, New Liskeard, Sesekinika, Temiskaming Shores, Thornloe, and Virginiatown.

If your initiative benefits one or more of these communities, you’re exactly who we’re here for.

What We Fund

We’re proud to support a wide range of projects big and small that make life better in Northern Ontario. Grants are typically awarded to initiatives that:

  • Improve community spaces — renovations, accessibility upgrades, or new equipment

  • Support health and wellness — from hospitals and care centers to local walkathons

  • Empower youth — sports programs, scholarships, and recreation activities

  • Celebrate arts and culture — heritage, performances, or local creativity

  • Strengthen inclusion — projects that benefit specific demographics such as seniors, youth, Indigenous peoples, newcomers, or those facing financial hardship

If your project supports a particular group or addresses a local need — tell us. We love hearing how your initiative creates opportunities for those who need it most.

Who’s Eligible

Recipients must be a qualified donee under the Income Tax Act. This includes:

  • Registered charities

  • Non-profit organizations (partnered with a charity or municipality)

  • Local governments or municipalities

If your group isn’t a registered charity, you can still apply — just include a sponsorship letter from a registered charitable partner or municipal organization.

What to Include in Your Application

The online application is simple and designed for real people — not grant-writing pros. You’ll be asked to include:

  • A short summary of your project and why it matters

  • Who will benefit (youth, seniors, Indigenous communities, low-income families, etc.)

  • A clear budget and amount requested

  • Any supporting documents, like quotes, photos, or letters

  • Your organization’s details (and sponsor info if applicable)

You can save your work as you go and come back anytime before the deadline to make edits or upload files.

What Happens After You Apply

  1. Confirmation: You’ll receive an email confirming your submission.

  2. Review: Our volunteer Selection Committee — made up of local residents who care deeply about this region — reviews every eligible application.

  3. Notification: Recipients are contacted by the end of April.

  4. Funding: Approved projects receive their grants within a month.

  5. Celebration: We love showcasing the success of our recipients — your story might even be featured in next year’s annual report or press release.

A Note from the President

““You don’t need to look far to see where these grants go they’re right in front of you. It’s the new wheelchair ramp at the Legion, the jerseys at the rink, the kids playing on a safer playground. Every time we hand out a grant, we know it’s going to someone who can turn one grant into a community game-changer. I’ve lived here my whole life, and I’ll tell you, when one town wins, we all win.”  Susi Johanson, President of the Frog’s Breath Foundation

Why Apply

Because small towns deserve big support. Every grant from Frog’s Breath helps make our region stronger one community project at a time.

We’ve helped build playgrounds, fund scholarships, support food banks, and strengthen healthcare services all thanks to local volunteers who turn funding into action.

If you’ve been sitting on an idea that could make a difference in your community — start your application today.
