A Lasting Legacy of Local Investment

Since its creation in 1998, the Frog’s Breath Foundation, established by Peter J. Grant Sr., has quietly and consistently strengthened Northern Ontario communities.Over $8.3 million has been donated to date an extraordinary contribution that continues to reach families, seniors, and youth from Kirkland Lake to Temagami. Peter Grant’s vision was simple but powerful: when success grows in the North, it should also give back to the North. Through the Foundation, that vision became reality — funding hundreds of projects that improve everyday life across health care, recreation, education, and culture.

The Scale of Community Impact

What started with proceeds from the now-legendary Frog’s Breath Charity Golf Tournament has become one of Northern Ontario’s most reliable sources of local funding.

By the numbers:

  • $8.3 million+ donated since 1998

  • 150+ projects supported across 24 communities

  • On average $300K–$350K distributed annually

Those numbers translate to visible, lasting results: new hospital equipment, upgraded community spaces, new recreation facilities, scholarships for local youth, and relief for families facing hardship.

Areas of Ongoing Support

The Foundation’s contributions span nearly every part of community life:

Health Care & Seniors’ Support

Over $1.4 million invested in regional hospitals including CT scanners, ultrasound machines, and long-term-care enhancements ensuring access to essential care close to home.

Youth & Education

Annual scholarships totaling $22,500 support graduates from TDSS, ESCSM, EHS, KLDCS, and ECJV, helping students continue their studies without leaving the North.A yearly $5,000 NOSM scholarship also assists Northern Ontario medical students in becoming the next generation of local doctors.

Community Infrastructure & Recreation

Support for projects like the Tri-Town Ski and Snowboard Village, curling clubs, arena upgrades, and playground improvements have given youth and families safe, active spaces to gather year-round.

Food Security & Essential Needs

Every November, the Foundation donates $30,000 to six Northern Ontario food banks — from Kirkland Lake to Latchford — ensuring that families in need have help during the colder months. In 2024, recognizing growing economic pressures, this contribution was temporarily increased to $65,000.

Community Living Temiskaming South Walkathon

An annual $1,000 donation supports vital programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities, an event that has uplifted local families for over 50 years.

Continuing Peter Grant Sr.’s Purpose

The impact of Peter J. Grant Sr.’s philanthropy is undeniable. His investments have built infrastructure, created opportunity, and provided stability across multiple generations in Northern Ontario.

“Every single dollar given back has stayed here; in our towns, our hospitals, our schools, and our community programs. That kind of local impact can’t be overstated. Peter Grant’s commitment to Northern Ontario continues to shape the region’s growth and resilience." - Susi Johanson, President of the Frog’s Breath Foundation

A Foundation Rooted in the North

Today, the Frog’s Breath Foundation operates through a volunteer Board of Directors committed to maintaining that same focus on local, measurable impact. The Foundation’s grants, annual scholarships, and donations all exist for one reason to ensure Northern Ontario communities remain strong, sustainable, and connected for decades to come.

$8.3 million donated (As of 2024 recipients). 25 years of giving. One shared North.
